Essential Exercises for the Childbearing Year "Essential Exercises for the Childbearing Year" by Elizabeth Noble

Wonderful book on preventing back problems, incontinence, etc. that can result from pregnancy and lax muscle tone. This book should be standard issue!

The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth "The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth" by Henci Goer

Hey, the title says it all!

Immaculate Deception II "Immaculate Deception II" by Suzanne Arms

Phenomenal photography! Written with such clarity and grace in her verbiage! She really knows how to take complex issues and present them in easy to understand ways.

Birth Reborn "Birth Reborn" by Michael Odent

Dr. Odent helped bring waterbirth into mainstream hospitals, among other distinctions. Great read and great photography.

Bounce Back Into Shape After Baby "Bounce Back Into Shape After Baby" by Caroline Creager

A fabulous book! Do not do sit-ups before reading this book!

The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" by La Leche League

A classic, wonderful, encouraging resource.

The Pregnancy Book "The Pregnancy Book" by Dr. William Sears

Goodness, I love Dr. Sears. Any of his books are on my recommended list, like the Breastfeeding Book, The Baby Book, Nighttime Parenting. Presents the attachment parenting philosophy in an easy to understand and approachable manner.

The Baby Book "The Baby Book" by Dr. William Sears

In addition to being a great all around reference for your baby's first 2 years of life, it describes attachment parenting theory.

The No-Cry Sleep Solution "The No-Cry Sleep Solution: Gentle Ways to Help Your Baby Sleep Through the Night" by Elizabeth Pantley

Doesn't the title say it all? Much more humane way of helping your baby develop good sleeping patterns.

Mothering Magazine Mothering Magazine

A magazine for natural family living, does not present the standard corporate-fed party line like mainstream parenting magazines (like Parents, Child, American Baby, etc) do. I don't agree with everything I read in Mothering... but it makes me think! Visit their website at mothering.com.

A Midwife's Tale "A Midwife's Tale: The Life and Times of Martha Ballard" by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

This is a combination of historical research, interpretation, and excerpts from the diary of a post-Colonial midwife from Maine. The diary spans 20 years and over 1000 births - fascinating!
