Medically Inaccurate Statements

I am horrified that such a popular book has so many medically inaccurate statements… especially since inside the front cover it claims that this book is "Favorably reviewed by the American Medical Association". Some of the inaccuracies include the following:

"Why are the majority of obstetricians so willing to 'take a couple of extra stitches' when they repair your episiotomy to 'tighten things up a bit down there'." (p106) Note: Most OB's are not willing to do this as it causes more problems, increased pain and sexual dysfunction in women! The "husband's knot" is misogyny at its worst!

"Exercise will not help you in labor or delivery in any way. (And) You might endanger the pregnancy." (p94)

"I have watched many of my Girlfriends labor and deliver their babies, and one thing that never ceased to interest me was how irrelevant their fitness levels were to the ease of their delivery… To my non-medical eye, it almost looked like the looser and less muscle-bound a woman was, the easier it was for the baby to get out." (p99)

"I must seriously tell you that once your water has broken, the baby will be born within a matter of a few hours, or else risk of infections develops" (p163) Note: Most careproviders recommend that the baby be born within either 24 or 48 hours after the water breaks.

"Vigorous sex at the end of pregnancy will bring on labor…Semen has a chemical like pitocin" (p163) Note: Sex, vigorous or not, can bring on labor but it is because semen has prostaglandins in it!
