« Return to About Rachel Index About Rachel I am a mother of two beautiful children, a boy and a girl. I decided to become a childbirth educator and doula when I was pregnant with my first child. I want to share the wonder, awe and beauty that are inherent in pregnancy and birth. I find it sad that many women do not revel in their pregnancies and cannot wait to "get the baby out of my body". I remember loving every kick and flutter, knowing that I was part of the endless cycle of life... almost like a taste of immortality. I had gestational diabetes with both babies, requiring close supervision for added complications. Although labeled as such, I never considered myself "high-risk". I believed in my ability to carry and birth my babies. I want to share that confidence and sense of pride with less assured women. I have also been recently diagnosed as full-fledged Type 2 Diabetic. Because of my personal history, I have chosen to specialize in "high-risk" pregnancies, particularly gestational, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. I have had the privilege of working with women with many different types of "high-risk" and special needs pregnancies. I feel that these women need the love and unconditional support that a doula can provide. |
